HIGH LEVEL TIMELINE
This was a six week solo project
KEY GOAL
To make a logo for a furtistic messaging app.
MY ROLE
Lead Graphic Designer
For this project solo I was the lead user experience designer and researcher. I created both the low and hi fidelity wireframes and prototypes.
UNDERSTANDING THE USER
The choice of app denotes the user
Choosing Google Maps gave me a range of factors: gender, age, race, socioeconomics. It even shows how that person/user travels to a location public, private or low global footprint.
IDEATION
There were many other choices.
I chose Google Maps because the app can sometimes frustrate me. I tried many other ideas before pivoting to the Zillow Overlay. Here are my ideas and the user research that showed me the loyalty of Google Maps users.
Quick re-route
Feature that allows user to click for an immediate new route when encounters
Pros:
Finding a new route quickly

Finding a safer route

Minimal change in route time
Cons:
Adds time to route

Routes to another similar situation

Untimely route during traffic
Landmarks instead of street/highway directions
Feature that uses landmarks for the turn by turn instead of street names and highway exits.
Pros:
Land marks are easily seen

Keeps the mind engaged in the route

Landmarks are easily recognized
Cons:
Landmarks can change easily

Weather might disguise or hide landmark

Use of repetitive or unoriginal landmarks
Clean, safe restrooms
Feature that allows users while traveling to locate a safe and clean restroom
Pros:
Helps find something needed during a long car ride

Safe restrooms are not easily found in certain areas

Miles between rest stops, busy highway exits and on the way home
Cons:
Can be used for illegal activities

Updating the information, who will be updating the information on the upkeep and validity of the level of security

User Research
I had to pivot after the first round of interviews which were both phone and zoom based in the need to see which way I should go within the spectrum of needs and Google Maps. Here are the insights I got before moving onto my final project of the Zillow Overlay.

Don't they already have a bathroom feature?
While I think landmarks are a good idea what if they change or how to know one Shell gas station from the last one?
I use Waze when I drive on the highway for speed traps, while I print out directions from Google Maps, but I am old school.
I will follow what Google Maps says... until I won't, since I know that Google Maps will figure out where to go next.
I will follow what Google Maps says... it will figure out where it is wrong and adjust or it will change the route by my driving.
I hate Apple Maps I immediately install Google Maps. It has been my go to for several years, I could not think of using another driving app for my phone.

Connect the user with a real estate agent, so they can send links through Google Maps.
Use Disabilities and useful places as a filter/ determining factor for buying the users next condo or home. Also renting their next apartment.
